Organic materials

MURIÉE uses organic materials

CASHMERE: The Cashmere fiber is obtained not by sheering but by carefully combing by hand through the extremely fine and soft undercoat of a cashmere goat to release the loose fibers. Each goat produces per year only about 100 grams of this very rare fiber. Our raw cashmere is sourced in Inner Mongolia and processed and finished in Italy. The yarn is dyed with natural products like berries, leaves and heartwood infusions. The entire dyeing process is done free of chemical additives resulting in a 100% natural product. Until today, a certified organic Cashmere quality does not exist as the fiber is delivered by nomads and their livestock cannot be environmentally standardized or reviewed.

PURE NEW WOOL: Pure new wool is the feather light hair shorn from a young sheep and worked for the first time. The highly flexible texture of the fiber makes pure new wool virtually crease resistant. Our pure new wool originates from Argentina and Uruguay, both countries with ideal climates for the breeding of sheep. The raw wool is spun and finished in Germany and KbT certified. KbT stands for in German “Kontrolliert biologische Tierhaltung” which translates into “Controlled organic husbandry”, one of the few very strict certificates that regulates conditions all the way from the pesticide free land that the sheep graze on, to animal welfare up to the spinning of the yarn. The dyeing process of our pure new wool is certified.

COTTON JERSEY:  We source this material with one of Germany's pioneers of organic cotton production. Already in 1991 they grew the first organic cotton worldwide and established since then alternative and sustainable farming projects in Turkey. The cotton is grown without the use of chemical fertilizers, genetic-manipulated seeds or pesticides and under natural crop rotation. This results in healthy and fertile ground, reduced consumption of water and is very favorable to the environment and climate-protection. Social aspects are a main topic - social security for all workers is provided through fair prices and organic premiums. The entire project and follows strict German IVN best guidelines.

PRINTING: Our prints are done by Germany’s first pure, clean and organic print workshop. From the preparation of the printing colors and tools, to the proper disposal of waste and wastewater, it is ensured that all production is carried out in an ecologically and socially responsible way. The family run company works purely with water-based pigments. Optical brighteners, formaldehyde, plasticizers and heavy metals used in conventional printing are left out.

DYEING: Strict organic criterias are applied for the dyeing process: materials dyed in an organic dyeing process are, unlike to conventionally dyed materials, free of critical inputs such as formaldehyde, toxic heavy metals and genetically modified organisms (GMO) and their enzymes. Bleach is based on oxygen not chlorine, carcinogenic Azo dyes are prohibited. All chemical inputs must meet requirements on biodegradability/eliminability.
